O Lord, Jesus Christ, Who, to inflame our hearts with the fire of Your love when the world was becoming cold in spirit, renewed in the flesh of most blessed Francis the sacred marks of Your own passion, graciously grant that by his merits and prayers we may steadfastly carry our cross and bring forth worthy fruits of penance.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Galatians
Gal 6:14-18
Brethren: But as for me, God forbid that I should glory, save in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through Whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision but a new creation is of any account. And whoever follows this rule, peace and mercy upon them, even upon the Israel of God. Henceforth let no man give me trouble, for I bear the marks of the Lord Jesus Christ in my body. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen.
Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Gálatas
Gal 6:14-18
Amen.
Ps 36:30-31
The mouth of the just man tells of wisdom, and his tongue utters what is right.
℣. The law of his God is in his heart, and his steps do not falter. Alleluia, alleluia.
℣. Francis, poor and humble, enters heaven a rich man, welcomed with celestial hymns. Alleluia.
Ps 36:30-31
Os justi meditábitur sapiéntiam, et lingua ejus loquétur judícium.
℣. Francíscus pauper et húmilis cœlum dives ingréditur, hymnis cœléstibus honorátur. Allelúja.
Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
Matt 16:24-27.
At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For he who would save his life will lose it; but he who loses his life for My sake will find it. For what does it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, but suffer the loss of his own soul? For the Son of Man is to come with His angels in the glory of His Father, and then He will render to everyone according to His conduct.
Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum
Matt 16:24-27
In illo témpore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis: Si quis vult post me veníre, ábneget semetípsum, et tollat crucem suam, et sequátur me.
Ps 88:25
My faithfulness and My kindness shall be with him, and through My name shall his horn be exalted. (Alleluia.)
Ps 88:25
Make holy the gifts dedicated to You, O Lord, and by the intercession of blessed Francis, cleanse us from every stain of sin.

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
Communis

O God, Who in many ways showed in blessed Francis the wondrous mysteries of the Cross, grant, we beseech You, that we may always follow the example of his holiness and be strengthened by unceasing meditation upon that very Cross.
